Room: Channing Room, South Wing, BUUF

Class Description: How has your religious journey impacted your life and ultimately led you to Unitarian Universalism? Join Rev. Sara for this exploration into our individual religious histories mapping out how those experiences shaped and connect to our ever evolving current religious identity. The majority of Unitarian Universalists come into the denomination from other religions; often there have been several stops along the path into our congregations. Some bring with them angry and unresolved feelings about experiences in other religious institutions, others have warm memories. Some move easily into an identity as a Unitarian Universalist; others experience a traumatic estrangement from family and from the center of their culture. Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, you are welcome. This class fits a variety of experiences from those new to UU and those who have been around a long time with the premise that we all experience shifts and changes in our religious identity. Using a combination of personal reflection, group sharing, ritual, creative expression, journal writing and more, you will The workshop is designed to provide both group sharing and private exploration, using journal writing participants will create connections, bridges, and resonances between

The Soul of Aging: Embracing Elderhood with Courage & Wisdom
Instructors: Patricia Heeb and Mike Philley. They recently attended a four-day retreat sponsored by the Center for Courage and Renewal for leaders of The Soul of Aging curriculum.

Dates: Five sessions | Wednesday Mornings, 9:30am-12:00pm | October 23 - November 20

Room: Channing Room, South Wing, BUUF (five more sessions in the Spring)

Class Description: What does it mean to be spiritually literate as we age? How might we navigate our elder years with renewed attention to the inner voice that has been with us since childhood, but for many has been muted or even ignored while we have attended to the myriad demands of adulthood? Is it finally
time, as we relinquish roles defined by the workplace, parenting, and commonplace expectations of
retirement, to listen to and honor our soul’s longing? Based on a highly nuanced and intentional way of being together, the curriculum is designed to build the relational trust needed to explore and share both our inner and outer lives as elders from a place of courage and wholeness.

Materials: Readings and exercises from The Soul of Aging curriculum will be provided as handouts.

Enrollment: Limited to 12 participants. Early enrollment is advised to secure one’s place. Participants will be expected to commit to all 10 sessions of the program over the fall of 2019 and spring of 2020 (Spring: Five sessions, Wednesdays, 9:30am-12:00, February 26-March 25). After registering, individuals will also be asked to complete a brief questionnaire concerning their goals and expectations for participating in the program.
