The GLOBE Academy - 2022-23 Rising 6th Grade Connections Selection Form
All 6th grade students go to two connections classes each day, and one of them is always PE. This electronic form will serve as your student's registration for their other 6th grade connections class. The available options are Art, Chorus, Orchestra, and Band. Please note that these are year-long commitments. We will make every effort to enroll students in their first choice Connections class; as a result, space constraints may prohibit a student's ability to change classes in the future. Please know that there are rental and participation fees associated with our band and orchestra programs. We, as always, will provide assistance to any student who needs it.

Art: Art students will explore many techniques and mediums, expanding their understanding of the elements and principles of design while becoming confident risk takers. We will be working on drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, collage and design. Students will learn about art history as well as contemporary art, and participate in formal critiques.  This means learning the visual art language through the practice of both traditional and experimental techniques and students will need to be willing to give oral and written responses to artwork. Students will be challenged to engage in a variety of mediums and styles of art. All students will be responsible for purchasing a sketchbook, dual tip markers, artist grade colored pencils, and a few other items to use in class.

Chorus: Chorus students will learn to use their vocal instrument to create a pleasing singing sound with correct technique and musical expression.  In addition to learning proper vocal production and technique, students will also learn music reading skills, sight-singing skills, and performance skills.  Chorus also offers opportunities for students to develop team building and leadership skills.  In addition to showcasing what they have learned in our yearly concerts, the students will have the opportunity to participate in district and statewide choirs with other music students from Georgia.

Orchestra: Instrument choices include violin, viola, cello, and bass. Orchestra students will use their instrument to gain a greater understanding of characteristic tone quality, music theory, musical notation, musical/emotional connections, teamwork, and fundamental musical techniques. Please note that this form is finalizing class selection ONLY. Instrument selection will occur in the first few weeks of class and is at the discretion of the director. Please do not purchase or rent an instrument prior to getting further directions from Ms. Mashburn.

Band: Instrument choices include flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, alto saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and percussion.
