TOGETHER IN JESUS: FIRST RECONCILIATION:  First, let's begin by locating your "Together in Jesus: First Reconciliation" Lesson 1 booklet. Also, be sure to have the sticker sheet that came with your booklets. Once you have both of these, locate the heart shaped sticker on your sticker sheet and place it on the front page at the place indicated. Great job! Now let's read a story about a couple of friends. Let's read about Matt, Damian and Nick on page 1 and 2 of your lesson. As you read the story, be thinking about whether it is easier to do something with two other friends or just one friend. When you are done with the story, please answer the questions below.
On Monday, what action did Damian take to include Nick? *

Great job! In this story, we see that all three boys were faced with a problem. Nick wanted to be part of things that were going on, but he was an outsider. Damian wanted to do things with both his friend and his cousin, and Matt wanted Damian to do what they had planned before Nick came. In this story, we see both loving and unloving actions that were made by Matt and Damian. But the important thing is that, in the end, the three friends learned how to work together so that they could all have fun. It is important that we are able to distinguish between loving and unloving actions, and learn how to solve our problems in a loving way. Which brings us to our next section: "God's Gift of Forgiveness."
GOD'S GIFT OF FORGIVENESS: First, you need to locate your "God's Gift of Forgiveness" booklet and turn to page 1. You are getting ready this year to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation, so let's begin by turning to page 2 in your booklet and learning more about this sacrament. Don't forget to write a short note in the space provided about an awesome person and what they do to show how much they love you. Then answer the questions below.
What are three other names for the sacrament of Reconciliation? *

Who did you end up writing about? *

Fantastic job! The sacrament of Reconciliation isn't just about confessing your sins; it's about a lot more than that. Reconciliation is an amazing gift of love. As we read more over the next several lessons, we will find out more about this amazing love. For now, we are going to learn about a very special prayer that is said when we go to confession. That prayer is the "Act of Contrition." Let's go to the next section to learn more about this prayer.
ACT OF CONTRITION:  You might be asking what is the "Act of Contrition"? Contrition means we say we are sorry. We admit that we were wrong. The "Act of Contrition" is a prayer that does that. In the "Act of Contrition," we acknowledge our sins, ask God for forgiveness, and express our desire to repent. The "Act of Contrition" is not only a great prayer for Reconciliation, it is also a great prayer we can say every day, especially before we go to bed at night. It's a prayer that allows us to examine our conscience to see how much of a “Christ-like” day we’ve lived versus a sinful one. Let's take a minute to locate your "Act of Contrition" packet in your lesson activity bag. Inside the packet, you will find 1) the "Act of Contrition" poster stand which you can place in your room next to your bed so that you can recite it daily, which will help you to memorize it, 2) an "Act of Contrition"coloring book that you can color and put together to help you learn the prayer, 3) the "Trace the Words" and "Fill-in-the-Blank" worksheets, which will help you become more familiar with the prayer, and 4) a packet of sequencing cards that will help you to break down the prayer into smaller pieces so that it is easier to learn. See the directions on your "Act of Contrition Sequencing Cards" to find out more ways you can use them to help you memorize the prayer. Over the next couple of weeks, be sure to take the time to work on these projects to help you learn, and hopefully memorize, the "Act of Contrition."
Did you go over the "Act of Contrition" packet and locate all of the items listed in packet? *

Super great job! You have just begun your sacramental prep journey and are off to a great start. I want you to remember that "Reconciliation is a Celebration." It is a celebration of God's power to make all things new for us!! We will continue to learn more about this celebration as we continue our lessons!
