O prednášajúcej/About the lecturer:

Maureen Raymo is a climate scientist who works at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory where she is the G. Unger Vetlesen Professor of Earth and Climate Sciences and Co-Founding Dean Emerita of the Columbia Climate School.  Prof. Raymo’s research focuses on the history and causes of climate change in the past, including understanding the consequences of climate change for future sea level and ice sheet stability. Her research on Earth’s climate history has been the subject of both a PBS Nova and BBC Horizon documentary and been highlighted in media outlets including the New York Times, the Washington Post, The Atlantic, The New Yorker, U.S. News and World Report, Discover Magazine, and elsewhere.

 

Prof. Raymo has spent many months at sea and in the field studying how our planet works, leading or participating in numerous scientific expeditions. She has published over 120 peer-reviewed scientific publications, including ten in Science or Nature. A fellow of the National Academy of Science, the American Geophysical Union, the Geological Society of America, and The Explorer’s Club, in 2014 she became the first woman to be awarded the Wollaston Medal, the Geological Society of London’s most senior medal first awarded in 1831. In 2019 she was awarded the Maurice Ewing Medal by the American Geophysical Union and U. S. Navy “for significant original contributions to the ocean sciences”.

Purpose of processing: STARMUS Lecture

Legal basis: 

1.         The legal basis for processing is the consent to the processing of personal data (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), which is granted by the lecture participant.

2.         Photographs and audiovisual recordings may be made at the lecture. In this case, the controller claims legitimate interest as the legal basis for the processing of personal data (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Description of categories of personal data: 

Personal data provided in the registration form in the case of the legal basis "consent" and photographic and audio recordings of data subjects captured during the lecture in the case of the legal basis "legitimate interest". Special categories of personal data and personal data relating to guilty pleas for criminal offences and misdemeanours are not subject to processing.

Period of storage of personal data / erasure of personal data: 5 years

 The aforementioned rights of the affected person are specified in more detail on the website of the operator: www.sav.sk The person concerned is entitled to make requests in connection with the above-mentioned rights to the personal data protection officer at the address gdpr@up.upsav.sk or in the form of a registered letter delivered to the Slovak Academy of Sciences at the address Štefánikova 49, 814 38 Bratislava. In the subject of both the e-mail and the letter, it is necessary to state: "PERSONAL DATA". Responses to said requests of the data subject or measures taken on the basis of these requests are provided free of charge. If the request of the person concerned is clearly unfounded or unreasonable, especially due to its repeated nature (repeated request), the operator has the right to charge a fee taking into account his administrative costs for providing information or a reasonable fee taking into account his administrative costs for notification, or to carry out the requested measure or has the right to refuse to act on the basis of such a request.
