Grant PTO Volunteer Teams
Volunteering for the PTO is fun and a great way to meet people in your community. New to the area, or looking to connect with other elementary parents? Start with the PTO. You can give your time while also benefiting new friendships and connections that will last a lifetime. Our work fundraising and planning activities supports the students, teachers, and staff of Christine Grant Elementary, but we can't do it without YOU.

Spirit Wear Team
This team chooses apparel for our online Spirit Wear store, spreads the word, and organizes orders, inventory, and the like.
Fishing Derby Team
This team helps plan our annual direct-ask fundraiser, an event which brings in the largest share of the funds we use to support students and teachers. They tally totals each day, coordinate communication, select prizes, and arrange for awards to highest fundraisers.
Spirit Nights Team
The spirit team contacts local businesses and restaurants that offer "spirit night" fundraisers, selects dates throughout the year for events to support Grant PTO, and spreads the word. Past Spirit Nights have been included McDonald’s, Subway, Marco’s Pizza, and Tin Roost.
Yearbook Team
The yearbook team organizes the yearbook cover art contest, assists in laying out yearbook pages, spreads the word, and organizes distribution of yearbooks to students.
Original Works Team
This team works with an outside vendor to put students art onto items like mugs, mousepads, and ornaments. They collaborate with Grant art teachers to collect artwork and distribute items to students.
Hospitality Team
This team plans monthly Teacher Treats and meals on parent-teacher conference days. Brainstorm themes, select caterers, create lists of items for families to donate/bring in, help with setup/strike and line up volunteers to set up and clean up.
Red Wheel Fundraiser Team
The Red Wheel team coordinates with the Red Wheel representative to set dates for this catalog sales-based annual fundraiser, spread the word, oversees order delivery, and organizes volunteers to help with distribution. This popular event is an important part of our annual fundraising.
MAY TO OCTOBER: Coralville Lake Can Collection Team
Redeemable cans and bottles from three Coralville Lake campgrounds are collected by this team and placed in storage shed from Memorial Day through October. Collect when it works for you. 90% of redeemed recyclables' value goes to the Grant PTO.
Grizzly Bear Team
Help dress Grizz, our Grizzly bear (he usually hangs out in the main office), and choose and/or make costumes for holidays and events. Snap photos for events and share them on the Grant PTO Facebook page.
Other Opportunities
There are more ways to help—see some options below!
On-Call Volunteer List
Add your name to a list of folks who are on-call for special projects or when extra hands are needed. We'll email this list first when we need a hand. Examples include sorting school supply kits, ice cream social helpers, etc.
Grant's District Parent Organization (DPO) Representative
One individual attends monthly lunch-hour meetings (lunch provided!) of the DPO and reports back to the Grant PTO at the general membership meetings. Meetings are held at a different district school each month.
Optimist Club Flag Route
This is a family activity where parents and kids help deliver and place American flags for 5 designated holidays: Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Veteran's Day. Volunteers also collect the flags at the end of the day. PTO receives half of the proceeds for flag routes we maintain. Volunteers share a route(s) with other team members so the time commitment is flexible.
Volunteer specific skills or talents
Our PTO has a need for individuals with specific skills to help plan and pull off our initiatives throughout the year. Let us know if you have any of the below skills by checking the box, or fill in a different skill in the 'Other' line at bottom.
Anything else you want to share, or other ways you'd like to help? Let us know!
