Stephanie Kirk Learning Grant Application
In October of 2005, Stephanie Kirk, KCTE/LA past president, NCTE Liaison, and dear friend, was killed in a car accident.  Supporting KCTE/LA and educating the students of Kentucky were two of Stephanie’s passions.  In honor of Stephanie Kirk, the board has established the Stephanie Kirk Classroom Learning Award, which KCTE/LA will award every year to a Kentucky teacher.



WHO CAN APPLY?
Any teacher of English/language arts who is a member of the KCTE/LA but not on the board may apply.



WHAT DOES THE AWARD PROVIDE?
The award will provide $500.00 (to be used in the classroom), the registration fee for the KCTE/LA conference held in July, and complimentary hotel accommodations during the KCTE/LA conference.



WHAT IS EXPECTED OF THE RECIPIENT?
The winner of the award must present the results of the project at the KCTE/LA conference in the following year.



WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE AWARD?
The purpose is to promote the teaching of reading/writing in classrooms in Kentucky and to honor former board member Stephanie Kirk.  Any innovative project which encourages attainable improvement in the language arts areas may qualify.



HOW WILL SELECTION BE MADE?
A committee made up of KCTE/LA board members will select the application which best promotes student improvement in an innovative and attainable manner.



WHEN WILL THE SELECTION BE ANNOUNCED?
The winning applicant will be notified in writing by April 1st.



WHAT MUST BE DONE TO APPLY?
To apply, one must complete the application form and return to the address on the application form prior to the deadline.



WHEN IS THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION?
Submissions for the award will be accepted until Febuary 29, 2024.
