AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a rigorous, four year elective class offered to students who would like to prepare to take higher level courses in high school (AP, IB, ACP, or Dual Credit) and attend a 4-year college or university. The AVID curriculum features writing, inquiry, collaboration, reading, real-world learning opportunities, as well as college and career exploration and motivation. AVID students are taught how to take notes in core classes and how to organize papers and assignments for classes in a binder, and are expected to utilize these skills while at CHS. Requirements for admittance into the CHS AVID Program include satisfactory citizenship, good attendance, average to above average GPA, desire and determination to work hard towards achieving college and career goals.
