Northstar Campus Grants and Pitch Day Competition
UMLRI’s Northstar Campus Pitch Day returns for its 3d year to showcase some of the Boston startup ecosystem's most exciting, innovative and cutting-edge technology. This year’s first of two Pitch Day events will be taking place August 11th, 2022 at the Northstar Campus.  

The Northstar Campus goal is to remove barriers to engagement and accelerate defense innovation, serving as the center of gravity for the New England startup and venture communities, academia, and local and federal partners, to support the Department of Defense.

REQUIREMENTS:
Eligible startups will be asked to fill out a brief application with details on their emerging technology, 50-50 match program requirement and the proposed use of funds. Northstar Campus management staff will identify 6 semifinalists which shall be judged by independent experts.

For purposes of this proposal a qualified defense-facing firm is defined as a business which is deriving a minimum of 10% business revenue from DoD contracts, or as a subcontractor. An executive summary describing the company’s capabilities, as well as how the project will benefit the company is required, and will include these key components: how many jobs the company has (there are no size limits) and the impact the project will have on the company (i.e. projected job growth, improvements in efficiency, higher projected sales, benefits of commercialization)

The SBIR “Pitch Day” process is below:
1. Qualified dual-use SBIR companies are requested to complete the form below making sure to include your complete business profile along with the intended technology topics section.

2. Eligible companies must meet a 50-50 match requirement. To meet match requirements, companies must provide proof of up to $40,000 dollars in expenses. Expenses must be “out-of-pocket” expenses and not otherwise paid for by federal grant dollars i.e. technical or business assistance expenses not otherwise paid for by a federal grant.  

3. Evaluation team consisting of SBIR Advisors will review all on-line submissions, review eligibility of provided match and select 6 companies to pitch proposals on Pitch Day

4. Three companies will be selected at approximately $20,000 each on Pitch Day; winning companies must meet the 50-50 match program requirements

5. NDA and Research Services Agreement will be established with SBIR company/Preferred Consultant to provide funds to the preferred consulting company
