If you are a member of the Cape Verdean, Vietnamese, Mexican, Puerto Rican, or Central American community and you are interested being paid to learn how to interview people from your community with a connection to the fishing industry, record never-before told stories, and create an exhibit to share those stories with the broader community, please complete the application below.
The Casting a Wider Net oral history project aims to build our local capacity to collect and share the stories of Cape Verdean, Vietnamese, Mexican, Puerto Rican, and Central American members of the fishing community by training a cohort of community ethnographers from each of those communities. If you are selected to participate in this cohort, you will receive three free trainings from professors, oral historians, and museum educators on oral history methodology, a $750 stipend, and the opportunity to record never-before told stories, create an exhibit to share those stories with the broader community, and network with local humanities professionals interested in amplifying the voices of underrepresented groups.
