Typically, mentors spend at least 8 hours a month with their mentees. The actual time requirements vary by program, however, at least a one-year commitment is encouraged for long-term growth. The mentor’s role is to support their mentees by empowering them to resolve current issues, to develop coping strategies for the future, acknowledge the strengths, talents and gifts of the mentee, and encourage them to find ways to use them. Training and certification will be provided to all mentees.
The overall success of a committee can often be directly linked to the effectiveness of the committee chair. The committee chair is responsible for planning the work of the group, conducting meetings, maintaining records and appropriate information about their decisions, ensuring actions are taken and evaluating results. Committee Chairs are asked to dedicate 6 hours monthly to the mission of We Love Philly
Committees serve as an opportunity for group problem-solving and is a forum for presenting multiple points of view. Committee members are expected to be active participants in the work of the committee group and must commit the time, energy and creativity needed to assist the committee group in realizing its goals and objectives. Committee members represent the communities We Love Philly operates in and are asked to meet once a month and dedicate 4 hours to the mission of We Love Philly.
Event volunteers are appointed for the planning cycle of a particular event and assist in the event planning or on the event day for set-up, guest assistance, registration or clean up. Event day volunteers will typically be asked to commit at least 3 hours. Event volunteers must be able to communicate effectively and respectfully, be dependable, punctual, courteous, personable, respectful, maintain confidentiality when appropriate, self-directed, willing to take initiative and are detail oriented.
