The Mentorship Program is all about participating and learning. We are looking to connect new riders with an interest in bicycle road racing with our more experienced bicycle racers to share knowledge and learn to ride and race.
Learning to race bicycles takes a combination of fitness, passion, skill and craft. The more you ride, and the more you ride with experienced riders the more you will learn the craft. Learning by doing, taking advice and feedback from those who have come before you will help develop your knowledge and confidence to line up for your first bike race - and many thereafter.
As Buffalo’s oldest cycling club, the Buffalo Bicycling Club wants to encourage cyclists to try their hand at bike racing. In 2021 the Buffalo Bicycling Club developed a formal mentorship program that pairs up newer riders looking to learn to race with more experienced club members who’ve been racing for years. This program supplements the club’s group ride program that allows recreational riders to learn group riding skills and etiquette while building fitness.
Program Expectations:
- You must be a Buffalo Bicycling Club Member to participate as a Mentee or a Mentor
- As a Mentee we expect that you will engage with your Mentor throughout the season, through text, email and and riding together.
- As a Mentor we expect that you will be an ear for your Mentee to help them with questions about riding and racing, and that you will connect throughout the season through text, email and riding together.
- We hope that as a Mentee and as a Mentor you will join in on the Buffalo Bicycling Club group rides and training races, and build up the confidence to line up at the starting line for a race.
