Wegene Youth Club (WYC) https://www.wegene.org/get-involved/youth-club/  a subset of Wegene Ethiopian Foundation (WEF), https://www.wegene.org which was founded in 2001 in the Washington, D.C., metro area and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with a mission to improve the lives of disadvantaged families in Ethiopia by overcoming three critical barriers in the poverty cycle: lack of education, poor housing, and family instability. We rely on community financial support to help these families. Our target for 2023/24 is to raise $30,000, and we are pleased to provide sponsorship opportunities for fundraising activities. Your donations and sponsorships enable us to finance our Knowledge center in Ethiopia, school fees for Wegene children, housing, food, and other household expenses.

Our achievements are listed below. We could not have done any of this without the community's help.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

• Enrolled and supported over 882 children in school (elementary through university) and created first-generation college students in 60% of its sponsored family households.

• Helped over 112 families, out of which 48 families have become self-sufficient 

• Provided private academic scholarships to over 225 students 

• Found careers for over 66 sponsored WEF family members 

• Provided over 510 laptops to sponsored WEF students 

• Built an elementary school in Jima, rural Ethiopia, in 2011. 

• Raised an equivalent of 2.1 Million Birr to help rebuild war-stricken areas in Ethiopia

• Signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health to assist with Ethiopia’s health facilities restoration efforts 

• Partnered with US-based organization Heart to Heart International and collected & shipped  medical supplies donations worth USD 220,000 to be distributed in conflict-affected areas in  Ethiopia 

• Partnered with US-based organization Project Cure with plans to ship approx. USD 500,000 worth of donated medical supplies/equipment to Debre Berhan Comprehensive Specialization Hospital in Ethiopian

• Assisted in the rebuilding of 75 Afar homes  

• Received Certificate of Recognition from the University of Gondar acknowledging the donation  of medical supplies  

• Donated 11 wheelchairs to Gondar University referral Hospital 

• Partnered with shoe-making expert and East African Leather Institute and started training shoe-making skills to a few WEF-sponsored families

• WEF and WYC are not affiliated with political, religious, or secular organizations. Any content, views, and opinions expressed or submitted by sponsors are considered the views, opinions, and responsibility of the sponsor offering them. Approval of sponsorship and including the sponsor’s contact information/advertisement information in WEF documents and/or website is not intended to endorse, recommend, or favor any views expressed or products/services offered by the sponsor. The views and opinions of sponsors do not necessarily state or reflect those of WEF, and shall not be used for advertising or product endorsement purposes. 

• All complimentary ticket has no monetary value, and all advertisements are subject to WEF’s approval.  

• In-kind donations are subject to review by the WEF  Board. The board will notify sponsors regarding their sponsorship level if the Board finds the monetary value of such In-Kind donation qualifies them for higher-level benefit. 

• Professional photos will be printed and mailed to sponsors within three weeks after the Gala event. 

• Contact information refers to the sponsor's telephone number, email address, and logo. A soft copy of the sponsor’s high-quality logo should be received at least two weeks before a scheduled event.
