HCMS Reopening Learning Models

The HCMS Reopening Advisory Committee has been meeting to determine the best reopening plan for the students, staff and families of HCMS. The Haverhill Cooperative School Board has voted in support of our plan to offer three learning model options for our families. In order to coordinate the next steps of our reopening plan, we would like to know the number of children who would be participating in each specific model.

In the survey below we are asking you to choose the learning model in which your child will be participating for the upcoming school year. The results of the survey will help guide the HCMS Reopening Advisory Committee in determining school operations, structures and environment as we move closer to reopening. Upon completion of the reopening plan, it will be presented to all HCMS families for clarification and input.

A separate survey must be completed for each child you have enrolled at HCMS. We understand that you are making a decision based on what has been presented so far by our team, the HAC and the school board. The expectation is for you to commit to the chosen option for one trimester (ending November 20th).

Choose one of the following learning models: *

FACE/FACE IN-SCHOOL LEARNING MODEL( Grade 4 & 5 ONLY): Students will receive instruction, presented by a HCMS educator, within the school building. Students will be placed in a classroom with other students. To participate, a family must agree to follow all health and safety guidelines as determined by the HCSB, SAU23, and the NH Department of Education, including wearing face coverings at all times except during predetermined breaks. All instruction will occur in a classroom setting. Students would be expected to attend school on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of each week. The school hours will be 8:30am-3:00pm. Wednesday will be a "remote learning" day for all HCMS students during which teachers would schedule check-ins with individual students, 1on1 instruction and/or small group instruction (as needed). Wednesdays will also be used for team planning time and additional cleaning/sanitizing rooms within the building. NOTE: If the number of students choosing this option is too high to maintain safety and health guidelines, this model may be changed to HYBRID model or something similar.

REMOTE LEARNING MODEL( Grade 4&5 ONLY): Students would remain at home and receive instruction from a HCMS teacher in all subject areas. To participate, families must agree to attendance and work completion expectations. Students would be expected to attend remote instruction classes Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of each week using a schedule determined by the classroom teacher. The school hours will be 8:30am-3:00pm. Wednesday will be a "remote learning" day for all HCMS students during which teachers would schedule students to work 1on1 and/or in small groups (as needed). Wednesdays will also be used for team planning time and additional cleaning/sanitizing of the building. This instructional model will include general class instruction accompanied with 1on1 or small group instruction time. Students would not be required to spend the entire time in front of the computer, but will be expected to complete work assignments on time and attend all large group instructional times as set by the classroom teacher. Chromebooks will be made available for families in need.

VLACS MODEL (4-8 option only): Students enrolling in NH's VLACS program would still be enrolled at HCMS, however, instruction would be delivered by a qualified educator not contracted with the Haverhill Cooperative School District. Each family determines the subject and learning modules their child(ren) would be studying. Each family would also determine when and how often their child(ren) completed the learning modules. HCMS will provide chromebooks to families in need to complete VLACS course work.

HOME SCHOOL MODEL: Families choosing this model are responsible for providing the educational program for their child(ren). Homeschooled students are not enrolled at HCMS. Parents/guardians who wish to homeschool their child(ren) are required to contact the school superintendent of their intent to homeschool, keep a portfolio of the homeschooled child’s work including a log of reading materials and have an annual evaluation demonstrating educational progress. Parents/guardians decide on what, how , when and where instruction is delivered. You do not need to have your program approved by a school official. You do not need to teach each of the subjects required in the law (science, mathematics, language, government, history, health, reading, writing, spelling, the history of the constitutions of New Hampshire and the United States, and an exposure to and appreciation of art and music) every year.

HYBRID LEARNING MODEL (Grades 4-8) Students will receive instruction, presented by a HCMS educator, within the school building. Students will be placed in a classroom with other students. To participate, a family must agree to follow all health and safety guidelines as determined by the HCSB, SAU23, and the NH Department of Education, including wearing face coverings at all times except during predetermined breaks. All instruction will occur in a classroom setting. Students would be expected to attend school on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday/Friday of each week depending on the first letter of their last name.The school hours will be 8:30am-3:00pm. Wednesday will be a "remote learning" day for all HCMS students during which teachers would schedule check-ins with individual students, 1on1 instruction and/or small group instruction (as needed). Wednesdays will also be used for team planning time and additional cleaning/sanitizing rooms within the building. One days that students are not in school or remote, students will need to participate in Distance Learning. Teachers will provide independent work and students need to check in with the teacher/school for the day to count as a school day.
