2020 Insight Questionnaire

We are a group of theatre artists based in Iowa who are interviewing other Iowans for the purpose of creating a piece of "documentary theatre" called 2020 Insight: Iowans Attitudes About Politics, Voting, and Current Events. We will be conducting research this summer with the goal to put together a mixed media performance piece that can be presented for free in October 2020. We want to represent a wide variety of perspectives as thoroughly and accurately as possible to help our audience members step out of their own echochambers for a while and listen to their fellow Iowans' perspectives before they make crucial voting decisions. We are not pushing a single political agenda and seek only to inform others and cultivate empathy. We are not making any money on this project, as it is completely volunteer-based. This questionnaire is the first stage of our research, and may take 30+ minutes to complete. We recommend scanning through the whole questionnaire before you begin. You may return to it and edit your responses later if you choose. We recommend finding a time when you can use a computer, not a phone. If you do not feel comfortable answering a certain question, or you don't have the time right now but may come back to it, indicate accordingly. All questions are marked required, so don't leave questions blank - at least write "N/A" or "Prefer not to respond." We are grateful for whatever you freely choose to contribute. FYI, Short answer responses are limited to 140 characters, long answer responses are limited to 2000 characters. If you have more to say, let us know! Actors would receive a script to read and interpret, then receive input from other collaborators before the piece is presented. Roles will be assigned and all actors will be tasked with representing the views expressed with truthfulness and empathy, not judgement. We are not looking to make anyone sound "wrong" or "bad." The words in the script are the words of real, breathing, complicated human beings, not characters. Actors may perform text originally said by people who have significantly difference life circumstances, including age, race, gender, sexual orientation, political identity, etc. Casting will not be "blind," but it will be conscious.) *
