1ST NORTHERN CYPRUS CROSS EXAMINATION COMPETITION 2025

Organized by University of Kyrenia, LL.B Programme.

The "Cross Examination Competition" is designed for law students to demonstrate their skills in courtroom advocacy, focusing on the art of questioning witnesses and defendants. Participants will engage in simulated trial settings, honing their ability to challenge testimony, think critically on their feet, and refine their persuasive techniques in a legal context.


The event will be held in two steps:

1- Online Training Sessions

April 22, 2025, 17:00: Introduction to "Cross examination", Asst. Prof. Dr. Nurcan Gündüz (EMU Faculty of Law)

April 28, 2025: 17:00: Cross examination techniques: Remarks from practice, Nurettin Karagözlü (Barrister, Council Member of the Turkish Union of Bar Associations), Meral Birinci Sonan (Barrister, Council Member of the Turkish Union of Bar Associations)

2- Cross-examination video submissions

From April 29 to May 9, 2025


COMPETITION GUIDELINES

  1. Participation is open to all law students and free of charge.

  2. Participants must attend both online training sessions.

  3. After the training is completed, a case presentation will be shown to the participating students through a video.

  4. In separate online sessions, the participants will conduct a cross-examination of the witness and the defendant. The individuals playing the roles of the victim and defendant will be assigned by the organizing committee. The cross-examination sessions will be recorded for the jury members to review and select the best performances.

  5. The top three performances will be awarded and announced at the award ceremony to be held at the University of Kyrenia on May 16, 2025.
