2020 Rural Schools' Cross Country

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Cross Country this year is being held at the Karāpiro Domain, on Friday, September 4th.   The postponement day is for the following Tuesday 8 September and if postponed, the call will be made by 8.30am on the day.

KARAPIRO SCHOOL STAFF:
Karāpiro School site will be closed on this day. Children must be delivered to Lake Karāpiro between 9.00-9.30am and collected from the same place by 2.30pm. Please take your child to the teachers to sign in for the morning roll.

REMINDERS FOR ALL COMPETITORS:
* SHOES ARE COMPULSORY—No Shoes, No Run (shoes are to be on feet prior to leaving for school).
* Where possible, please run in your red Karāpiro t-shirt (please see Lynda in the office if you would like a school shirt).
* Races will be run by age and gender, and results will be recorded according to gender.
* When running, the cones must be kept on the left-hand side.
* Competitors only on the course.
* When not competing, everyone must stay in the general vicinity of the food and school tents, with ALL Karāpiro Students remaining under the Karāpiro School tent under teacher supervision.
* Please don’t climb trees, or climb over or lean on the roped finishing area.
* Remember to hydrate – bring your water bottles.
* Remember to name all personal items.

FIRST AID:
First aid, if required, will be located in the kitchen, behind the food tent.

TOILETS:
These are situated behind the gazebo area, near the start/finish lines and so spectators will not need to cross the track to get to the toilets. Students are required to tell a teacher where they are going any time they go to the toilet.

SPECTATORS:
Spectators are to be situated alongside the food tents, where the schools have set up. Parent photographers wishing to take photos are welcome to do so, however, please ensure you stay off the course at all times. We need an 'official' photographer - please indicate below if this is something you can help us with.

FOOD:
Food and drink will be available to buy on the day - thank you for supporting our Senior Ski Trip fundraising efforts.  A menu and prices will be sent home shortly. In conjunction with Project Energize, we are encouraging healthy food options and we ask that children do not bring sugary or sports energy drinks.

PARENT/ADULT HELPERS:
As you will be aware, this is the annual Rural School Event that Karāpiro School organises and runs. For this event to take place we require parent/adult help on the day for the following:
* Parents to transport their own children (you are welcome to make private arrangements to carpool if this works best for your family)
* Recording race results and writing out certificates
* Marshalling on the course
* Qualified First Aiders
* Parents to help cook and serve food
* Clean up at the end
Please note; during the day parent helpers will be rostered on in ‘shifts’ to ensure they do not miss their own children’s races.

PRIZEGIVING:
The first six finishers in each race will have a certificate presented at the prizegivings.

INTERSCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY TEAM:
A selection of the top finishers in the 8 yr old, 9 yr old, 10 yr old and 11 yr old races will qualify for the Cambridge Town Schools’ Cross Country (Interschools) to be held on Friday 11 September (postponement day Tuesday 15 September).

Please sign your child out with a teacher when you take them home. All students must be collected by 2.30pm (as all staff will be required to help pack up the venue). A reminder that school is locked and closed for the day.

Please fill in this google form (ONE PER CHILD ATTENDING) by Monday 17th August 2020.

Many thanks
