4401 Gates-Hillman Building (enter through door on 4th floor/Forbes Ave. see map below)
Carnegie Mellon University

This is the 6th Annual Kickoff Event for teams in Western PA. Come see the CITY SHAPER challenge set in person and learn what all the missions are. Get advice and tips from Champion’s teams.

Hear from experts related to the theme and get a jump start on your project research.  One of experts is Nina Chase, an urban architect who focuses on public spaces. Our second expert is Stephen Lee, the Head of the CMU School of Architecture. His work focuses on sustainable architecture. Please come prepared to ask them both questions. This is your chance to jumpstart your team’s research project.

In addition, the building we are meeting in was awarded LEED status (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) which is based on being sustainable, water efficient, etc.  https://www.cmu.edu/environment/campus-green-design/green-buildings/gates-complex.html

OTHER FUN THINGS: After the event is over, you can attend the Steel City Showdown FIRST Robotics Competition at the CMU gym if you are interested in seeing what the high school FIRST programs look like. (https://www.scrashowdown.com/)

PARKING: There are numerous parking lots on campus (https://www.cmu.edu/parking/about/index.html).

QUESTIONS: Contact team@droidsrobotics.org with any questions.

NOTE: Photographs and video may be taken at this event as in any FIRST-related event. We assume you agree to all FIRST Release and Waivers. It is expected that at least one adult will be attending with any group of students. This is not a drop-off and leave event.
