Digital Citizenship Policy for Tahuna Normal Intermediate

Information/Overview

At Tahuna Normal Intermediate we believe that learning takes place most effectively in blended learning environments. Students of our school carry out their learning using both traditional paper and pencil approaches as well as the use of digital technologies such as computers and iPads in our teaching and learning experiences

The School Community of TNI will:

1. Be digitally capable:

Able to use a range of digital technologies for the appropriate purpose at the right time. Seek out knowledge online that supports their learning and show responsibility for their learning lives online. Students are able to curate/collect content to help their learning, they can also create content of their own online.

2. Have high levels of digital literacy.

Will be critical of the information that they see and use online. Will show academic integrity and follow creative commons guidelines when using information online (citing sources). Will consider the implications of content they create online (purpose and audience).

3. Be aware of and capable of keeping themselves digitally safe (cybersafety)

Are able to keep themselves safe online by having a strong understanding and awareness of digital footprints. Know what to do if they feel uncomfortable online and the importance of keeping personal details to themselves.

4. Demonstrate the Key Competencies and values of Tahuna Normal Intermediate as digital citizens.

Students will be able to manage and balance their online lives, participate effectively in online communities, think about and reflect on their digital presence, relate to others in respectful ways showing integrity, and use the language of online learning (coding, imagery, multimedia).

What TNI will do to develop cyber safe students:

Learning programmes will teach learners to:

- develop digital capability using different devices, applications and learning tools. - develop their ability to be critically literate around online and multimedia tools.

- develop their ability to keep themselves safe online and know how to seek help from others when they do not feel comfortable online.
