SRCS Learning Spaces Re-engagement Program Referral Form
The Brunswick Learning Space (BLS) and Coburg Learning Space (CLS) are two campuses of Sydney Road Community School that take students from secondary schools on short term placement after they have not been able to meet success criteria in their base school.  Students are supported to improve their literacy and numeracy levels, pro-social skills, as well as their health and wellbeing to support a successful re-engagement with their base school at the end of the program. Staff from the units support teachers within the base schools to implement strategies which support students in maintaining engagement once they return to their school.

The program has four stages:

Stage 1: Induction Phase (2 weeks), incorporating:
Intensive background data collection
Identification of behaviour/s causing risk of disengagement
School visits
Classroom observations
Parent and teacher consultation
Goal setting
ILP development

Stage 2: Intensive Phase (8 weeks), incorporating:
Full-time placement at one of the campuses
SWPBS
Trauma informed practice
Respectful Relationships
Youth worker support
Restorative practices
Literacy and Numeracy interventions
Social skills training  

Stage 3: Re-engagement Phase (3 weeks), incorporating:
Graded and individualised program of supporting students to re-enter the base school successfully
Re-engagement meeting for key school staff including classroom teachers
School and staff support in implementing Key Recommendations
School visits and classroom observations
Wellbeing handover meeting held at the campus attended
Connection to local and school based support services

Beyond the program: Evaluation conducted by Unit staff, incorporating:
Data collection and user group surveying
School attendance data
Teacher feedback survey
Tracking suspension and expulsion data pre/ post program engagement
Wellbeing survey
Student feedback
