Kraken World Chess Championship Contest!
Have fun guessing what will happen in the World Chess Championship, and win Tiny Prizes!

The match to determine the Chess Champion of the World happens every couple years, and it begins Friday, November 26.  World Champ Magnus Carlsen, of Norway, will defend his title against challenger Ian Nepo (Nepomniachtchi), from Russia.

Make a guess prediction for the following questions, and you're in the running for either an ice cream cone or a chess keychain!  The winner of each guessing contest is the answer that comes closest, without going over.  (In case of a tie, the younger guesser wins.)

It's a 14 game match, so you get 14 guesses!  Be sure to make your guess by 9pm the evening before the game.  You can change your answers up until that time.

Tiny Prizes will be given out at the Saturday Grand Prix tournaments at the Ferndale Library.  Limit two prizes per player.  Only students K-12th grades in NW WA can participate.

GIVE IT YOUR BEST GUESS!

Game 1 (Nov.26)  How many moves will the game go?
Game 2 (Nov.27)  On what move will each player castle? The answer is the average of both players.  If only one player castles, that is the answer.  (If no player castles, no winner today!)
Game 3 (Nov.28)  On what move will one of the players "connect" his rooks along the first (or eighth) rank?  That's when the rooks are seeing and protecting each other.  The first player to do so -- that move number is the move number you're trying to guess.
Game 4 (Nov.30)  On what move number will be the first "check"?  (If no check, no winner!)
Game 5 (Dec.1)  Not counting castling ... on what move will be the first King move?
Game 6 (Dec.3)  Not counting castling ... on what move will be the first Rook move?
Game 7 (Dec.4)  On what move will be the first pawn capture? (When a pawn captures something.)
Game 8 (Dec.5)  The second queen move of the game ... what move number will it be?
Game 9 (Dec.7)  The first pawn to reach the 6th rank ... on what move number will it be?  (If no pawn reaches the 6th rank, then no winner!)
Game 10 (Dec.8) The first capture of the game, not counting pawns capturing something ... on what move number will it be?
Game 11 (Dec.10) On what move will one side or another gain a clear material advantage of a pawn or more? (Not counting even trades.) (If a combination, when the last capture of the combination is made.)
Game 12 (Dec.11)  Same question as Game 2: On what move will each player castle? The answer is the average of both players.  If only one player castles, that is the answer.  (If no player castles, no winner today!)
Game 13 (Dec.12)  Same question as Game 3: On what move will one of the players "connect" his rooks along the first (or eighth) rank?  That's when the rooks are seeing and protecting each other.  The first player to do so -- that move number is the move number you're trying to guess.
Game 14 (Dec.14)  How many moves will the game go?
Alright!  If you change your mind, you can go back and alter your guesses up until 9pm the evening before the game.  Good luck!
