Core Band Class Policy
ALL Marching Band members MUST be enrolled in a core band class. Core band classes include Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Percussion and bands at their Jr. High (if in 9th grade). If the primary instrument is an orchestra instrument, and a secondary instrument is being played only for marching band, the student must be enrolled in one of Fremont’s Orchestra ensembles. If the student is primarily a choral student, and a secondary instrument is being played only for marching band, the student must be enrolled in one of Fremont’s choirs. Any request for an exception must be made directly to Mr. Bradshaw and will be handled on a case by case basis. Students must be 9th in the Fremont feeder system or 10th -12th grade at Fremont High School. Color Guard students are highly encouraged to be enrolled in dance classes.
I understand that ALL Marching Band members MUST be enrolled in a core band class. I will continue to put in full effort and contribute to my school day band course. Marching Band is not to replace the school band experience, it is to supplement. *
I understand my student needs to continue participation in a core band class. *
Attendance Policy
REHEARSALS: Beginning the week after Band Camp, full band rehearsals are EVERY Tues./Thurs from 6 to 9 pm. There are a few Saturday rehearsals which are listed on the band calendar. All absences must be entered on the absence request form ahead of time. The absence request form on the band website must be completed prior to absence to be considered excused. Parent contact will be made with any unexcused absence. Attendance at rehearsal is ESSENTIAL to the success of each performer, and our group. Work, homework, hanging out with friends etc is NOT a valid excuse. If employed, please give your employer proper notice and set your schedule accordingly. Rehearsals prior to a competition/performance will not be excused, and the student may not be allowed to perform at the following performance.

CAMPS: There are several required camps that all students must attend.  No absences are allowed aside from emergencies. Please notify Mr. Bradshaw ASAP if you are aware of any conflicts with camp dates. Please see fremontbands.com/marching-band.html to see the full calendar with event details.

PERFORMANCES: If you have a scheduled conflict with a football game or band competition, please notify Mr. Bradshaw immediately. As is the case with rehearsals, Work, homework, hanging out with friends etc is NOT a valid excuse. The football schedule will be available in July.

Please refer to the band calendar when scheduling appointments, work schedules and other activities.

Please communicate.
I understand the importance of attendance. I understand that any tardies or absences must be communicated in advance (or as soon as reasonable in case of an emergency). Furthermore, I understand that our success begins with our commitment.
Clear selection
I understand that my student needs to attend all rehearsals/camps/performances. Absences must be excused in advance. *
Learning the Show
All music/routine must be memorized by the designated deadlines, or you may be assigned an alternate position. Music must be passed off to section leaders, designated staff and/or Director. Section leaders are there to help you, so please use their help with the music.

Members may be asked to perform their drill segments and marching technique for their section leaders, staff and/or Director. Drill segments will include proper field position, horn position, body motion, music performance, etc.

Visual memorized issues is a SAFETY CONCERN. Students may need to sit out part of a show for their safety and the safety of others if drill is not learned.
I understand that Mr. Bradshaw, staff and students leaders will use a variety of resources to assist with learning and memorizing our performance material, but ultimately it is my responsibility to memorize my music and drill. I understand that I must pass off my music and drill.
Clear selection
I understand that my student must memorize their show material. I understand that it is a safety concern when students do not know their drill and students will need to pass off their music/drill in order to perform. *
Other Academic Courses
Members must maintain a 2.0 grade average to be eligible for competitions and no more than one F. Grades will be checked periodically. Students must maintain a good attendance record in all classes.
I understand I must make a full effort in ALL of my classes. I will NOT be allowed to perform if I have any more than one F or below a 2.0. I understand that Mr. Bradshaw will frequently check grades throughout the season. *
