be please share any dietary restrictions when you register.
Preparation
- Bring 10-15 business cards to give to the people you meet.
- These interactions will feel very fast. That’s by design to increase the number of connections, and hopefully lead to more fruitful future conversations. You will have 2 minutes to talk about yourself and 2 minutes to hear from your partner.
- The organizers will keep time and let you know when to switch speakers and when to change partners.
- We will provide an information sheet to keep notes on your interactions for follow up
Before coming, review this model outline and practice a 90-120 second introduction. This may feel unnatural, but it will help. Think of this as halfway between how you describe your work to a stranger or how you describe it to someone you meet at a conference in your field.
Introduce yourself: Name and Department
Summarize your work: “I use X to study Y for the purpose of Z”
State what you’re looking for:
“I’m looking for a collaborator in _____ field”
“I’m interested in applying _____ to ______”
“I’m putting together a grant proposal about _____”
“I’m looking for new data sets”
