The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding service to the area of school counseling over an extended period of time.  This is the top award determined by the SDSCA awards committee.  The recipient must be a member of SDSCA.  Please consider the following points:  Length of time as a school counselor; Contributions to SDSCA; Professional Contributions; Civic and local contributions.

The purpose of this award is to recognize a school counselor who has made outstanding contributions to their school, their counseling profession, or the community served.  Please consider the following points:  Has excellent rapport with students, parents and school personnel; is highly respected as a counselor of students; is a current member of SDSCA with a Master's degree and is certified by the State of SD; has worked as a school counselor during the past year; is working towards the development and maintenance of a comprehensive school counseling program.

The purpose of this award is to recognize a school counselor who is a newcomer to the profession, entering the field within the last 5 years.  Please consider the following points: is a model for new counselors demonstrating the highest standards of professional competence; has made outstanding contributions to the school, community and/or profession; has demonstrated excellent rapport with students, parents and school personnel; is a current member of SDSCA with a Master's degree and is certified by the State of SD.

The purpose of this award is to recognize a person or organization having made a contribution or unusual significance that substantially affects the school counseling profession or made a contribution directly affecting counselors, students or school program AND is not eligible for any of the other awards.  (does not need to be an SDSCA member).

The purpose of this award is to recognize a school administrator who is a supervisor of school counselors in a building or district-wide.  Please consider the following points: supports development, implementation and continuation of a comprehensive school counseling program; demonstrates an understanding of a comprehensive counseling program as a resource to all families; works collaboratively with school counselors to provide support and insight in regards to all student needs and welfare; sees the school counselor as a valuable resource and helps to advocate on behalf of the school counselor and comprehensive school counseling program; may or may not be a member of SDSCA.

The committee shall accept nominations from anyone.  This form has been adopted which assures adequate information shall be provided for the selection process.  Time and method for nominations shall be decided by the current committee.  Currently, nominations and forms must be received before March 5 of the current year to be considered for that year's induction.  All nominations will be kept on file for 2 years.
