Washingtonville High School's chapter of the National Art Honor Society (NAHS) seeks to inspire and recognize students who have shown an outstanding ability and interest in the visual arts. The goals of our chapter are to organize, participate in, and support art-related events/fundraisers within our school and community that promote creativity, inclusivity, and a love of the visual arts.
If you are interested in applying to be part of our membership please note, YOU MUST HAVE A CUMULATIVE GPA OF 85 OR OVER TO BE CONSIDERED. Ms. Held will gather that information from the Guidance Department. Students who will be in grades 9-12 during the 2021-22 school year are eligible to apply. Application must be submitted by May 14th. Here are the other requirements:
-Annual dues of $15 will be collected from each member.
-Attendance is required at all Gen Pop (General Population) Meetings to maintain membership and privileges. Meetings are the 3rd or 4th Thursday of each month. In-person meetings are at 2:20pm in the small cafeteria. Virtual meetings are at 3:30 via Google Meet link on our Google Classroom. We don't yet know the format of our meetings for the 2021-22 school year.
-If you must miss a meeting you must email our elected Secretary with a valid excuse (after school job, doctor appointment, sports or other after-school commitment etc.).
-All members must participate in at least 50% of our projects, activities and 100% of our fundraisers. If we run NAHS virtually in 2021-22 we will have virtual art projects/fundraisers you will be required to participate in.
-To graduate with NAHS honors and earn the right to wear a cord, pin, or tassel at graduation, a member must remain in good standing until the graduation date.
-Members must retain a 90 average in an honors or AP art class or 93 in a regular art class.
-Members must have and maintain an 85 cumulative average in all other subjects.
-Members may remain active during such time when there are no visual arts on their class schedules as long as they fulfill all of the other requirements each year.
You are required to have a teacher recommendation in order to be considered for NAHS membership. Ideally this would be an art teacher you have recently had, but if that is not possible any subject will do. You must ask this teacher to send an email to Ms. Held prior to 5/14 stating his or her reasons as to why they feel you would make a good candidate for NAHS membership. It is recommended that you ask this teacher both in-person (if possible) and via email.
Please complete this form and submit no later than Friday, 5/14. You will be informed by Tuesday, 5/18 via email as to whether or not your application has been accepted. If you are accepted you will be provided with our Google Classroom code.
