2024 Music Academy Enrolment
Enrolment - Music Academy

Students from Years 3 – 12 have the opportunity to be involved in the Music Academy. Involvement is focused on enrolment in group or individual lessons, and is supported by participation in music ensembles. This enrolment form is for the extra-curricular Music Academy. Please do not use this form for the Primary Classroom Music Immersion Program.

Individual lessons are recommended (if possible) for the following situations:
- Secondary students who are beginning a new instrument
- Students who are working towards AMEB exams
- Secondary string students

Please visit the following link to access our Music Academy Handbook for 2024, which outlines all details relevant to participation in our program: https://www.sctsv.catholic.edu.au/our-school/music-the-arts/

Every attempt will be made to give each beginner their FIRST preference.  However, this may not always be possible. For this reason, we ask that you nominate a SECOND  preference.  You can make a final decision about whether to accept a second preference when an offer is made. Continuing students do not need to nominate a second preference - just select "CONTINUING STUDENT - No Second Preference".

Music Academy lessons are offered during the school day in the following formats:

Secondary students have a 30 minute weekly lesson on a rotating timetable. Eg. the week 1 lesson may be at 9:00am, week 2 will be at 9:30am etc. This ensures that students are not missing the same subject every week. It is the student’s responsibility to attend at their scheduled time.

Primary students have weekly 30 minute lesson at the same time every week. The lesson will be scheduled at a time that avoids other specialist classes. This allows primary students to be set up for success when engaging with Music Academy lessons in their early years, and allows for primary class teachers to anticipate when their students will be leaving the room.

It is the student’s responsibility to attend at their scheduled time, however some students may need encouragement with ways to remember when their lesson is: encourage your child to check the timetable provided to you, or have their lesson time clearly displayed at the information hub at home; some primary class teachers will also write Music Academy lesson times on the whiteboard to help remind students. Secondary students can access when their lesson is via Compass.

INDIVIDUAL LESSONS are available for all instruments.
Individual lessons are recommended (if possible) for the following situations:
- Secondary students who are beginning a new instrument
- Students who are working towards AMEB exams
- Secondary string students

INDIVIDUAL LESSONS - $470 per semester (Piano students require individual lessons).

GROUP LESSONS (2 - 3 students) - $265 per semester (Piano not available).

Requests for tuition outside of school hours depend on the availability of our instrumental and vocal tutors, and priority will always be given to Year 11 and 12 students. Not all tutors are available outside of school hours.
Please select INDIVIDUAL or GROUP lessons *
I would like to be contacted by the Program Leader about an outside of school hours lesson. Preference is given to students in year 11 and 12 (subject to availability of tutors).

Request for loan instrument
Students will be given the option to hire for their first year of learning, with the exception of classical guitar, piano, and percussion (see page 5 of the Music Academy Handbook). After their first year of learning, students will be expected to purchase their own instrument if they wish to continue. The exception to this is large, expensive instruments (eg baritone saxophone, tuba, double bass etc) that will be provided to students as part of the Music Academy resource. This ensures that the beginners for the following year will have access to hire instruments and that every student has a chance to try an instrument before having to purchase it. If you have any concerns or are unable to purchase an instrument, please contact the Music Academy staff to discuss options.

Several loan instruments are available for use by students learning the following instruments:

String Instruments ($150 hire per year)
- Violin
- Viola
- Cello
- Double Bass

Wind/Brass Instruments ($200 hire per year)
- Trumpet
- Trombone
- Tuba
- Clarinet (bass clarinet as well)
- Flute
- Saxophone (alto, tenor & baritone)
- Euphonium

This hire fee above reflects the cost of annual servicing to ensure the instruments are maintained in very good
condition.

Hire is NOT available for piano, guitar, percussion or voice.

Do you wish to be considered for a loan instrument in 2024?
Hire is NOT available for piano, guitar, percussion or voice.

Conditions of Enrolment:

- Enrolments are for a minimum of one year, billed every semester. This encourages the valuable skill of perseverance through the inevitable challenges of learning an instrument. Parents who wish to withdraw their child from Music Academy lessons must make contact with the Music Academy staff teaching their child, followed by contacting the Music Academy Program Leader. Families will then be required to fill out the Music Academy Cancellation of Enrolment form and send a signed copy to music@sctsv.catholic.edu.au or collect and return a paper form from the office. As lessons are billed by semester, any mid-year withdrawal requests must be completed by week 8 of Term 2. There are no refunds for mid-semester withdrawals, as lessons are paid in advance.

- Fees are payable in advance at the beginning of each semester.  If fees are not paid by due date, the student's lessons will be discontinued until fees are paid or a payment plan has been organised.

- Fees are charged at the above rate for a minimum 15 lessons per semester.

- College fee accounts must be current for a student to participate in instrumental lessons.

- I understand that this is the extra-curricular Music Academy and is not the same as the Classroom Music Immersion Program for students in Years 4-6.

- Lessons will only be rescheduled if at least 24 hours notice has been given prior to the scheduled lesson explaining the absence. This includes doctors appointments, exams, etc.

- Participation in College ensembles is compulsory when, as decided by the vocal or instrumental tutor, a suitable standard has been achieved.

- Materials required for each instrument are all listed in the Music Academy Handbook.
