2022 Swannanoa Gathering Youth Scholarship Application
Applications are due April 15th, 2022 (5pm Eastern Time)
Each year, we award Youth Scholarships for the cost of tuition ($590) and housing ($480) in any of our programs to a number of promising young musicians and dancers. Several of these scholarships are memorial scholarships awarded during Celtic Week in memory of Tony Cuffe, and Regis Malady, during Old-Time Week in memory of Ralph Blizard, and during Contemporary Folk/Fiddle or Traditional Song Weeks in memory of Freyda Epstein, our dear friends and long-time staff members.
Applicants must be under the age of 22 and should submit, by April 15th, 2022 by 5pm (Eastern time), this application along with a self written letter of request for the specific week desired. This letter must list background and contact information, including the applicant's age, prior musical experience and a statement on why (s)he should receive a scholarship. Applicants must also include a letter of recommendation from a mentor or other individual knowledgeable in the applicant's area of folk music or dance. Please do not send recordings. Priority will be given to those who have not received a scholarship before. An application fee is not required. Scholarships are merit-based, limited and competitive.
Transportation to The Swannanoa Gathering will be the responsibility of the student.
It is also the policy of The Swannanoa Gathering that all students under the age of 16 come with an adult chaperone. The Swannanoa Gathering is an adult camp and as such does have adult activities in the evening. These include nightly beer tents and jams that continue well into the wee hours of the evening. We cannot be responsible for children under 16. If the family of a scholarship applicant feels that they are able to attend without a chaperone, we ask that you contact our office and we will send you a release form to fill out and sign.
