Understanding the Landscape for Community Composting in the State of California
Decentralized composting is an essential tool in the design for smart, resilient and resource-wise cities. However the viability of community scale composting is limited due to regulations governing the collection and transportation of food waste, regulations governing where and how food waste can be processed as well as zoning and land use guidelines. This is an attempt to understand the underlying regulations and find room to advance community scale composting within the boundaries established by local ordinances.
