2024 Engineering and Science Success Academy (ESSA) Application
The Engineering and Science Success Academy program dates are: Sunday, July 7, 2024 - Saturday, August, 3, 2024. This is a FREE, 4-Week long, residential summer bridge program, open only to incoming MSU first-year students, majoring in Engineering. ESSA was designed to help incoming freshmen transition and prepare for the academic undergraduate experience.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Reside in the U.S.
  • Paid your MSU deposit to attend for Fall 2024
  • Be an incoming freshman, majoring in engineering
  • Score an 18 or below on the MSU Math Placement Exam
Upon successful completion of the summer bridge residential component, participants will be eligible for an incentive totaling $2000.  The ESSA participation incentive will be disbursed in the following increments:

1. Upon successful completion of the ESSA summer bridge program, a scholarship in the amount of $1000.00 will be deposited into the participant’s MSU student account at the start of the Fall 2024 semester.

2. At the end of the Fall 2024 semester, upon acceptable participation and completion of the required ESSA duties and responsibilities, as outlined in the ESSA Program Participant Contract, a scholarship deposited in the amount of $500.00 will be deposited into the participant’s MSU student account.

3. At the end of the Spring 2025 semester, upon acceptable participation and completion of the required ESSA duties and responsibilities, as outlined in the ESSA Program Participant Contract, a scholarship deposited in the amount of $500.00 will be deposited into the participant’s MSU student account.

**Note:  We recommend you complete your FAFSA, prior to accepting admission into the ESSA program.  If for any reason, the student’s financial aid package prohibits them from receiving additional internal scholarships, they will be provided with textbook rental for Fall ’24 and Spring ‘25 semesters following completion of the summer bridge experience. ESSA Participant Guidelines and Expectations
The Engineering and Science Success Academy (ESSA) is a free, 4-week long, summer residential bridge program, designed to provide incoming freshmen with academic preparation, in the areas of math and science, as well as, familiarization with campus resources, and success strategies for first-year students. This program is being offered to incoming Michigan State University freshmen, majoring in engineering, who meet all applicant eligibility criteria.

Students who elect to participate in ESSA will be expected to adhere to the following guidelines and expectations:

Participants must successfully complete the summer bridge program experience, in order to remain eligible for program incentives.
Attend all classes and other scheduled events during the program.
Seek assistance from instructors and teaching assistants.
Show respect for instructors, facilitators, teaching assistants, and fellow participants.
Put forth every effort to reflect your best work.
Inappropriate, threatening, offensive comments and/or actions will not be tolerated.
Harassment is a violation of the University Anti-Discrimination Policy and will not be tolerated.
Participants’ behavior in ESSA shall be conducive to the teaching and learning process for all concerned.
The ESSA participants, instructors, teaching assistants, and staff share the responsibility for maintaining professional relationships based on mutual trust and civility.

FERPA WAIVER: AUTHORIZATION TO RELEASE INFORMATION
PLEASE READ:
In accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), the undersigned student hereby permits Michigan State University and its representatives with the Engineering and Science Success Academy (ESSA) in the College of Engineering to disclose the information specified below to any and all ENGAGE approved groups, offices, organizations and entities.

This consent shall be valid throughout the student’s enrollment at Michigan State University and thereafter but may be modified or rescinded in writing by the student.  The parent(s), legal guardian(s), tuition provider(s), or other individual(s) as approved by the ESSA Management Staff agree that they shall not disclose the specified information to third parties without the student’s authorization.
