The Charlottesville -Winneba Foundation is organizing another Sister City trip to Winneba, Ghana. This trip is limited to 20 delegates. We are seeking delegates who possess the following:
An interest in gaining a greater understanding of “Our Roots, Our History”
A positive & open mindset
Ability to display empathy and outreach with Winneba community members during the visit
Enjoys traveling & assisting with larger groups
Willingness to participate in group activities, for example:
Africa's largest masquerade festival, the Fancy Dress Festival on New Year's Day in Winneba
Memorable cultural immersion activities
Visits to historical sites that shed light on the origins and history of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade (Cape Coast Castle, Elmina Castle, Slave River site/ancestral burial ground, etc.)
Visits to schools, orphanages, hospitals, libraries, environmental conservation sites, and other collaborative projects supported by the Charlottesville-Winneba Sister City partnership
Food! Experience Tasty Ghanaian food!
Optional activities: Tour of University of Education-Winneba; Winneba beach excursion; attendance at local football (soccer) match; worship service at Winneba church; visits with Winneba elected officials, traditional authorities and community leaders; tour of Kakum National Park & tree canopy walk; sightseeing in Accra; souvenir & gift shopping at traditional West African arts & crafts markets; etc.
Payment info.:
Cost per person is $2,500. Fee includes airfare, hotel lodging, all meals, travel visa, ground transportation, travel health insurance, admission fees, etc; does not include any additional excursions, souvenirs/gifts, snacks, gratuities, vaccines/medications, passport application fee, etc.

Note: the Charlottesville-Winneba Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization, so friends or family members can get a tax deduction by donating toward your trip! Please make sure they designate the traveler’s name when they contribute.

Deadline for payment is Oct. 5, 2022. Travel requirements:
Current U.S passport – beware, it can take several months to apply for or renew one!
Ghana travel visa - we apply for these as a group
Yellow Fever vaccination – must have been done within the past 10 years
Check with your doctor about anti-malarial medicine and specific vaccines he/she might recommend (e.g. typhoid, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, cholera, rabies, meningitis, influenza, COVID)
