Application for Vice Chair of Sexual Misconduct Prevention Committee
Thank you for your interest in serving in a leadership role on the Sexual Misconduct Prevention committee! As a Vice Chair of the Committee, you will be expected to attend each weekly committee meeting (Mondays at 5pm), and act as a leader within the committee. The Vice Chairs may also be asked to take part in meetings with campus stakeholders including CARE and the Title IX Office, as well as attend SAPC meetings under subcommittees if needed. Please read below for the descriptions of each of the positions available.

Vice Chair of Event Coordination: While SGA is not an event planning organization, one role of the Sexual Misconduct Prevention Committee is to educate and advocate for students, which sometimes means planning events, or participating in events related to sexual misconduct prevention. The Vice Chair of Event Planning will be expected to take the lead in helping to plan these events by: coordinating logistics of events, delegating event planning tasks, overseeing events day-of, and communicating with campus stakeholders about events.

Vice Chair of Student Group Outreach: Campus initiatives and events are all more successful when students stand together. It ensures we are truly working with and for all students, and that we can support students when they are taking action to prevent sexual misconduct. The Vice Chair of Outreach will be expected to work closely with the Director of the Committee to stay up to date on campus events related to SMP, meet with campus organizations to promote collaboration, design new ways to reach students with our messages, and direct most communications with other campus groups.

Vice Chair of Policy Efforts: The Vice Chair of Policy Efforts will be expected to stay up to date with local, state, and federal policy changes or initiatives that would effect/fall in line with SMP efforts. In addition, they will be expected to help organize and coordinate SMP stances and testimony on these policy initiatives and/or SMP policy events (e.g. student protests). This Vice Chair will work closely with the Deputy and Director in ensuring that SMP as a whole is updated on the new Federal Guidelines as well as organizing student feedback to discuss with administration. Overall, The Vice Chair of Policy Efforts will handle all new policy changes and be heavily involved with the new Federal Guidelines student feedback.

Applications will be reviewed by the Director and Deputy Director of the Committee, and are due Friday, September 13th at 11:59pm. Applicants may be contacted for an interview request. Final decisions will be released by Saturday, September 21st at the latest. Please reach out to Naomi Lichtenstein with any questions or concerns at sgasmp@umd.edu.
