Empowering Deaf Society - British Sign Language FREE level 1 course for staff from Strategic Organisations in London
This Signature accredited course is being offered free to staff from strategic organisations in London due EDS receiving funding.

Through running free course such as these EDS are raising awareness about the Deaf community, focusing on social integration and improving communication and understanding between the two cultures of the deaf and hearing communities. In doing so the lives of many deaf people will improve, resulting in better access to services for Deaf people. 

This is an amazing opportunity for your organisation to become more inclusive and deaf aware, as places on such a course would normally cost over £700. 

Our 2 hour online weekly evening class will run every week for a period of 18-20 weeks and will be taught by our experienced qualified Deaf tutors in a relaxed and friendly class environment.

In this course you will learn to understand and use basic language from everyday situations.  Subjects you will learn include: 1. Meeting people, 2. Using numbers, 3. Weather, 4. Transport, 5. Directions, 6. fingerspelling, 7. basic conversation about your life, family and pets and much more!

On passing you will also receive a Signature Accredited Qualification Certificate.

There are 3 exams in total , BSL101, 102 and 103. These will be held face to face with a tutor and filmed to then send to a Signature Assessor for examination purposes only.  Dates for the exams TBC and will be arranged with your tutor during the course.  

The course team will support participants to achieve their full potential, and in return participants are expected to apply themselves fully to the course and put in the level of work required to succeed.

The course team includes all our tutors and BSL centre admin staff. During your BSL course you will be taught by any of our Deaf tutors. This will give you a variety of experience with different deaf people and their personal signing styles in order to improve your receptive skills throughout and help you complete the course successfully.  The tutors will work closely together to deliver the curriculum as usual.

Tutors will provide full and on-going support throughout the course and the assessment process. If participants have any concerns or difficulties, they are encouraged to talk to their tutor as soon as possible. Tutors will do all they can to help and would prefer to know about any problems as soon as they arise rather than find out at the end of the course.
