2019 Caribbean Tour Application Form
This tour is for Hare Krishna youth ages 18-29 who would like to participate in our ISKCON Youth Ministry mission trip to the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, December 14, 2019 through January 5, 2020. Partial tour participation possible. The tour will cost somewhere around $500 USD not including airfare (limited sponsorship available for deserving youth in financial need). We will be participating in four Ratha-yatra festivals, several Harinamas (street kirtan processions), kirtan programs at temples and yoga studios, and "dhama seva" volunteer service projects at temples and a devotee Eco Farm such as gardening, landscaping and building renovation. We'll be going on adventures, japa hikes to rainforest waterfalls, swimming holes, lagoons, beaches, and building friendships with likeminded devotee youth. We will be living simply, preparing our own communal meals, cleaning up after ourselves, staying in dormitory-style accommodations, often with sleeping bags on ashram or devotee living room floors. We will be living a Krishna centered lifestyle, going to bed early by 9:30 pm, waking up early by 5:30 am, participating in a spiritual morning program, and refraining from illicit sex, intoxication, gambling and meat eating. Why would you like to come on this tour?
The tour will cost somewhere around $500 USD not including airfare. Will you be able to afford the tour fees, plus airfare? If not, let us know how much you could afford. It is also possible to come on part of the tour. (To check approximate cost of airfare, look up flights arriving into Santo Domingo SDQ on Dec 14, a one-way flight from SDQ to San Juan SJU on Dec 27, and a flight home from SJU on Jan 5).
The tour will start on Saturday, December 14, 2019, and end on Sunday, January 5, 2020. Will you be able to participate in the whole tour from start to finish?  (If not, please explain). Partial tour participation is possible, for example Dec 14-27 (Dominican Republic only), or Dec 27 - Jan 5 (Puerto Rico only).
On this tour, you'll be expected to follow the Four Regulative Principles: no illicit sex, no intoxication, no gambling, no meat eating. How do you feel about this requirement, and what parts will be challenging?
On this tour, we'll be going to bed early by 9:30 pm, rising early by 5:30 am, and attending a spiritual morning meditation program (kirtan, japa, Srimad-Bhagavatam reading and discussion). How do you feel about this, and will it be challenging for you?
On this tour we'll be living simply, sharing daily chores, helping to prepare our own communal meals, cleaning up after ourselves, sleeping in simple dormitory style accommodations, often with sleeping bags on ashram floors, taking cold showers (as is the standard in tropical countries), participating in volunteer group service projects to help clean, landscape, beautify the temples. How do you feel about the above? What aspects will be challenging for you?
