The Conference!
Over August 13-18, the p5.js community will gather together to push the p5.js environment and community to the next level. This means developers, designers, writers, educators, and other smart folks from all backgrounds and skill levels will link up to participate in a series of conversations, creative projects, and community building activities in direct support of the rapidly expanding present and bright futures of the p5.js platform. We’ll separate into a few small groups to focus on the following topics:
Accessibility
How can p5.js contribute to the inclusive design landscape? How can we wield it to create new, accommodative technologies? What features can we build to better center those outside of a typical intended user demographic? What myths can we dispel about the kinds of people that use p5 and use code creatively?
Music and Code in Performance
A look at live coding, versus built interfaces and hardware integration. What new tools or interfaces can we create to encourage live group collaboration? How can we create responsive relationships between p5.js and the body?
Internationalization
How do enable people all over the world to participate in p5.js? This goes beyond translation to thinking about teaching materials, outreach, and different styles of communicating, learning, and creating.
p5.js in the Wild
How does p5.js fit into the wider Internet ecosystem, and the landscape of creative technology? What interfaces, extensions, and bridges can we build to make p5.js mashup dreams come true?
We’ve invited a celebrated community member (TBA!) to lead each chapter; these facilitators are there to help kick off the brainstorming and reflection. Output may include (but is not limited to!) works of art, new features, bug fixes, documentation, tutorials, outreach, essays, performances, and more.
At the end of the week, we’ll have a day where we invite the public to join us in our discoveries through a series of presentations, panels, and art exhibition.
Each participant will be supported in their participation with small honorarium, funding for travel, and food and accommodations during their stay.
