I have always wanted to be part of a team. I do not have the ability to coach everyone, but I can help. As a National Referee, USAPL Club Coach, Co-State Chair, part of the Collegiate Committee growing High School & Collegiate powerlifting I want to bring California to be a force on the National Platform. I can help with program selection, accessories, quick questions or referrals to coaches I know and trust for one on one coaching. I'd like to set up a communication hub where I can also post resources for athletes to know where to find answers and how to get started. We can do form check videos, and make connections and support each other.
We also do need help in various meets and growing the sport. The intention of this team would be to provide a team of support, without needing to pay for a coach or a team. The only (optional)costs would be to purchase a singlet/meet shirt to represent the team and California. (Also, this could be a trade for work at a meet also, if preferred over the stipend). Ideally, I'd love people to participate and help out at meets, and offer support to become referees so you can learn as much as you want about the sport and help it grow.
Having a team means that if someone is no longer in a college, alumni, independent lifter, they have a network to be able to have teammates at their meets, support and help each other, save funds to go to Nationals by traveling together, etc. We could even use working meets for fundraising, have officers and do other fundraiser to help sponsor our team.
Possibilities are open. But the start is pretty simple. What I am also looking at is doing a sponsorship for this team. Current Idea is getting a block of rooms for sponsored athletes for Nationals. (Min 2, up to 4 guys & 4 gals). This would be based on the athletes hitting Qualifying Totals, but then based on their involvement in the community, by volunteering, refereeing, etc.
