GO STEM Scheduling Questionnaire

Thank you for your interest in a GO STEM Mobile Maker Lab Visit. We are happy to assist you in scheduling a visit for your school. To help us streamline our scheduling process, we have created this form for you to fill out prior to further discussions with our team.

Before you begin filling out this form, we suggest that you communicate with everyone interested in a visit from us on how the schedule would work best for your school. There are different ways you can arrange your schedules and we have already had so many creative strategies used by other schools. To give you ideas, we have listed ways that have worked previously.

For schools where classes have students from more than one grade:

-We have combined very rural schools (<10 students total) to improve our program efficiency.

-For schools where the classroom age range has a wider age span (k-5 for example), we bring 2 STEM instructors and split the group to lessen the age gap in each class.

-We had one school give us their gym and each hour was dedicated to a different grade. Those students would leave whatever class they were in at that time to attend our GO STEM class.

-A home school group reserved a youth center in a convenient central location for their group

For schools where classes have students from only one grade for each class:

- We set up our lab to be held within the same science classroom for the entire day and just had each science class cycle through our room as they would on any normal day. Within 2 days, we were able to reach all students at that middle school during their science time.

Labs that we offer at this time:

Aerospace:

1) Air Rockets

Biomedical Engineering:

1) Prosthetics     2) Hydrophobicity

Energy:

1) Magnetics      2) Solar

Environmental Science:

1) GIS Mapping

Computer Science:

1) Dash & Dot (K-3)     2) Beebots (K-3)     3) Finch Robots (3-12)     4) CoDrones (3-12)

5) Makey Makey (2-8)     6) Hummingbird Kit (9-12)

Things to consider when planning your schedule:
1) try to minimize the amount of time GO STEM educators are traveling from room to room. We usually are moving a few boxes of supplies with us and will have to set up in each new classroom.
2) please schedule at least a 30 minute break in the day for lunch for our STEM educators.
3) try to avoid scheduling different labs back-to-back to minimize the time spent unpacking and setting up. Some schools will have one type of lab dedicated for each day or have a change in labs scheduled after a longer break period (such as lunch) so there is time to transition.
4) try to limit the schedule for just 2 days at your school as we try to reach as many schools as possible throughout the school year. We can discuss if more time is needed to reach more students as we understand some schools are much larger.
5) we require a teacher from this school/organization to always be present with each class
