Zephyr Buddies is a mentorship opportunity for students at Mahtomedi Public Schools to make connections and build reciprocal relationships. Our secondary students are looking for positive ways to give back to the community, while our elementary students are looking for a role model and mentor to assist with school work, engage in fun activities, and ultimately create time to build social skills and confidence. During this time, due to COVID-19, mentoring interactions will be held virtually.
Role of the mentor (Grades 6-12 and Passages Transition Program): Share your passions and academic knowledge with younger students while serving as a role model and mentor. Enjoy time together virtually getting to know each other and sharing your specialty passions, such as an interest in chess, your love for music, a foreign language, strategies in gaming, drawing skills, or the fun of a board or card game. Communicate with mentee if unable to attend a meeting.
Role of the mentee (Grades K-5): Come prepared and excited to interact and learn new things from a secondary student mentor. Be willing to get to know a secondary student, share your passions or explore new ones, and keep an open mind when engaging in different activities. Communicate with mentor if unable to attend a meeting.
Role of Parent/Guardian: Work in partnership with your secondary or elementary student to ensure they have an interest in participating. Then complete the waiver and sign up form, follow communication from the program, and ensure your student attends on the meeting dates or communicates with their buddy that they are unable to attend.
Commitment: Connect virtually with your buddy at the assigned Zephyr Buddies meeting times with adult facilitators (at least once a month). These monthly meetings will be held outside of school time. There may be an option to meet in person in the future under the guidance of the parents/guardians.
