2024-2025 JAPN Non-Student Tutor Application Form
The Japanese Studies Program is currently accepting applications for the JAPN Non-Student Tutor (NST) position for FA24, WI25, and SP25.

We have successfully expanded our Japanese Language Program, and the NSTs play a key role. We are looking for qualified individuals who are capable of assisting our instructors and students in learning Japanese at all levels. NSTs must follow instructors' instructions to complete tasks and assist students within their available hours. NSTs will have standard tasks each week (office hours, tutorial section instruction, grading, etc.) and will also be asked to complete additional tasks based on that week’s needs (proctor tests, assist with conversation tables, etc.) within their available hours.

We are looking for applicants who are available to teach JAPN tutorial sections on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday throughout the Fall Quarter 2024 (September 23, 2024 - December 14, 2024), Winter Quarter 2025 (January 2, 2025 - March 14, 2025), and Spring Quarter 2025 (March 26, 2025 - June 13, 2025). NSTs are required to attend a weekly TA meeting (schedule TBA).

[Qualifications]
- Applicants should have a native or near-native competence in the language, should speak the standard variety of Japanese, and should have knowledge of fundamental Japanese grammar and culture. Qualified candidates must have a four year college degree. Preference will be given to candidates with degrees in linguistics, Japanese language, education, foreign language pedagogy, and/or other language education-related areas. Applicants with prior teaching experience will be given preference.
- NSTs are required to have exceptional interpersonal communication skills, understanding of the collective business culture, and strong sense of team work as they team-teach and work closely with the instructors and other teaching assistants. Successful candidates will have a strong work ethic, professional demeanor, positive attitude, and understanding of the program's mission.
