ACSS Wilbur Murra Award

The Wilbur Murra Award is named for the first Executive Director of the National Council for the Social Studies, who served at the founding of the organization in 1921. He retired to Arizona and attended our conferences to meet and congratulate the winner of the award named for him for many years.

To recognize individuals who have made long-term contributions to social studies education, the Arizona Council for the Social Studies has established the Wilbur Murra Award, presented annually. • Served social studies education in a consistent and outstanding manner.

• Exemplified the term, "Social Studies Educator," or nurtured such qualities in others.

• Supported effective programs that promote the social studies in their communities.

ELIGIBILITY: Social studies teachers, school administrators, professors, and community leaders from across Arizona may be nominated for this award. Candidates need not be ACSS members, nor must they be professional educators.
