VDM Volunteer Application
The Virginia Discovery Museum is always looking for caring and enthusiastic volunteers, ages 13 and older, to help enrich the lives of children in our community. We depend on more than 300 volunteers each year who generously donate their time to help the Museum run smoothly.
Front Desk & Gallery Volunteers (Shifts: 2-3 Hours/Week):
Work at the front desk or assist in the exhibit galleries and in weekly educational Drop-In programs during regular Museum hours (9:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.).
Drop-Off Program Volunteers (Shifts: 2-4 Hours on Select Days of the Week):
Assist with educational Discovery Workshops for children 4 and older (4:15-5:15 p.m.), Makers Series for children 6 and older (4:15-5:15), Day-Off Camps for children 4 and older (9:00-3:00), and/or Date Night Drop-Offs for children 3 to 10 (5:30-8:30 p.m.).
Birthday Party Volunteers (Shifts: 2-4 Hours on Select Evenings, Saturdays, or Sundays):
Assist with standard and themed birthday parties and private facility rentals (times vary).
Event Volunteers (Shifts: Vary by Event):
Assist with annual Museum events like Kid*Vention, Discovery Dash, Boo Bash, and/or Santa Pancake Breakfast.
Exhibits & Maintenance Volunteer (Shifts: Vary by Project):
Assist with building and maintenance projects on new and existing exhibits.
