A STEM Partner is a STEM employee or retiree from a local business who will volunteer in your classroom approximately 4 hours per month to provide assistance to you during STEM lessons. The STEM Partner can communicate the positive role STEM plays in real life, make connections between classroom work and real-world applications, translate inquiry practices to how real scientists "do science", and be an in-class resource for you as you work through different curriculum topics.
Your responsibility as a teacher hosting a STEM Partner includes:
- willingness to have the STEM Partner in your classroom on a regular basis
- commitment to plan for good utilization of the volunteer's time in your STEM class
- flexibility in scheduling the STEM class for a day or time that works for both of you
