Music Department undergraduate and MM strings are assigned to UCLA Philharmonia.

Music Department undergraduate and MM winds, brass, percussion, harps and keyboards are automatically considered for UCLA Wind Ensemble, Philharmonia and Symphony, and will be assigned large ensemble placements for all three quarters immediately following the Fall auditions. These assignments will usually include some rotation among the ensembles during the academic year.

We urge you to consult this new FAQ page (also posted on the “About” page of uclaorchestras.com) with the most current information about the three ensembles, large ensemble curricular requirements for Music Department majors, and audition procedures.

Scheduling conflicts with any of the large ensembles that you are applying for

Here are the regularly scheduled weekly rehearsal times for each ensemble:

- Philharmonia: 3:05 - 5:50pm Tuesdays and Thursdays
- Symphony: 7:30 - 10:00pm Wednesdays
- Wind Ensemble: 3:00 - 5:50pm Mondays and Wednesdays
- Symphonic Band: 3:00-4:50pm Tuesdays

Scheduled concert dates for each ensemble are available here.

Please list specifically when you anticipate being unavailable for any rehearsals or concerts, specifying which academic quarters the conflicts are in, and the reasons for your unavailability.  Students will receive ensemble assignments for all three quarters at the end of fall auditions. Your responses below will be considered in making these assignments, but your requests cannot automatically be accommodated, since so many factors are involved in assembling the large ensembles.  Final decisions about large ensemble assignments are made by the ensemble directors in consultation with the relevant studio teachers.
