"Teaching Racial Justice in the Classroom:"              A Workshop for Teachers

                                                                June 22, 23, and 24, 2021 from 9 am - 3 pm via Zoom

How do we talk about race in our classrooms?

How do we recognize our own racial biases?

How do we discuss the history of race in America?

This workshop is designed for middle school and high school teachers (or pre-service teachers), seeking to begin to answer these questions.

This “Teachers’ Workshop on Racial Justice in the Classroom” is a three-day workshop providing the opportunity for writing and talking about race, with practical applications for the classroom, led by veteran educators Chey Davis, Trisha Baker, and Allison Jordan. All participants in the workshop will receive copies of three books: "Stamped: A Remix" by Jason Reynolds, "So You Want to Talk About Race" by Ijeoma Oluo, and "Not Light but Fire: How to Lead Meaningful Race Conversations in the Classroom" by Matthew Kay.

Teachers completing this workshop will be eligible to check out up to 30 copies of "Stamped: A Remix" for use in their classrooms during the 2021-22 school year.

This workshop will take place Tuesday, June 22, Wednesday, June 23, and Thursday, June 24. 2021 from 9 am – 3 pm via Zoom. 15 SCHECHS are available. The cost is $25, which includes all three books.
