Scholarly Editing Questions
Hello, I'm Laura Portwood-Stacer, founder of Manuscript Works and author of The Book Proposal Book: A Guide for Scholarly Authors. I'm writing a new book about how to be an effective editor of scholarly manuscripts, and I would love to hear from you about your experiences editing or being edited.

All questions below are optional, so just fill out whatever speaks to you and leave anything else blank. You can share your name and contact info or not -- it's totally up to you.

Thank you in advance!

I'm hoping the book will be useful to people who step into roles where they must give helpful feedback to authors of scholarly manuscripts. This includes thesis advisors, journal editors, book series editors, editors of essay collections or special issues, those who mentor junior faculty, and those who participate in peer writing groups with other scholars. It could also include those who work in-house in scholarly book or journal publishing and freelance editors.

If you could see yourself stepping into one or more of these roles someday—or maybe you're already in one of these positions—what questions or concerns are on your mind at the moment?
If you have been in an editorial role for a while or have held one in the past, what do you know now about working with scholarly authors/texts that you wish you had known when you started?
If you are a scholarly author who has experienced editing or receiving feedback on your manuscripts, what have you found most helpful when being edited? Least helpful? Is there anything you wish your editor/feedback-giver had done differently?
Choose the editorial role(s) you have held or hope to hold in the future. Check all that apply.
Would you like to share your name? You will not be explicitly connected to your responses but I may publicly thank you for your input when the book is released. (Optional! You can also share your name but request not to be thanked publicly.)
