Title l Parent Involvement Policy                                     2020-2021
Pursuant to federal law, Blenheim Middle School of Discovery shall develop jointly with, agree upon with, and distribute to parents of participating children a written parent involvement policy.'To ensure parents’ full participation in the Title l program at our school, we have addressed the following:

(A) The parents should be involved in the joint development of the LEA plan and the process of school review and improvement.   The Parent Involvement Policy has been jointly developed with the parents, community members, teachers, and School Improvement Council members.

(B)  The school will provide technical assistance and other support necessary to assist in planning and implementing effective parental involvement activities to improve student academic achievement and school performance.
       Communication
- Send letters, calendars, and classroom newsletters from district and school.
- Appoint church liaisons to communicate information to the parents. Title I will
   provide training. The liaisons will announce the school calendar at church.
       - Inform parents at the beginning of the school year that calendars will be sent
         home during the first week of each month.
- Make telephone calls/Personal contact.
- Have parents to sign the Compact for Learning during Back-to-School Night,
               Parent/Teacher Conferences, PTA meetings, etc.
- Encourage attendance at all scheduled parent/teacher conferences.
- Include parents on school teams and committees
- Include parents on Five Year Strategic Planning Committee.
- Encourage family members/volunteers to eat breakfast/lunch with a child.
- Have parents complete a survey during Open House.
- Provide telephone calls from home to school as needed.

  (C)  Increase parental involvement in the overall student’s achievement
- Provide training on how parents can work with their children at home.
       - Solicit volunteers (parents & community) to assist teachers in the classroom.
       - Have children write an invitation to parents and churches to visit the classrooms.
       - Make all documents parent-friendly/reader-friendly.
       - Establish a point system for parents and students attending parent/conference
                nights, PTO meetings, etc.
      - Provide volunteer training.

 (D)  Integrate parental involvement strategies with other programs
        - Twenty-first Century After school programs
       - Call Alert System
       - Provide information and opportunities for parents to get GED (through Adult
          Ed).
      - Provide a Parent Resource Center for check out of materials, parent meetings,                    
        volunteer work space, etc.
     - Explain Title I Policies, Compact for Learning, and programs at PTO meetings.
     - Offer workshops for parenting skills.
     - Provide a monthly outline of the child’s curriculum through classroom
        newsletters, at school or at PTO meetings).
    - Give weekly individual progress reports.
    - Provide technology training (Navigating school website, computer,
      Graphing calculators, etc. in the am/pm).                        
   - Offer workshops for the state standards.
   - Provide training on how to monitor a child’s progress.
   - Provide several trainings on strategies to improve student achievement (PASS
      Night, ELA, Math, Writing Nights and SC Ready).

(E)  Parents are to be involved in improving the content of the parent policy
       annually
- Review the parent policy for revisions during the month of April.
- Provide a list of up-to-date activities to improve student learning.

(F)   Involve parents in the activities of the school
 - Extra curricular activities
 - Offer flexible number of meetings, (morning/evening meetings, home visits)
 - PTO (have each grade level take turns for entertainment).

(G)  Provide workshops for staff on working with parents as equal partners  
- Parent/teacher workshop
- Parent resource center

(H)  Funds for activities

-  MCSD
-  PTO
