2021 - 2022 New Student and Family Orientation - Orientation Leader Application
Thank you for your interest in joining the Summer 2022 VCU New Student and Family Orientation Team!

In order to be considered for an Orientation Leader position, you must have a cumulative 2.5 GPA by the start of the Spring 2022 semester and a satisfactory conduct check. Minor conduct issues may not be a determining factor in our decisions.

Below, you will have the opportunity to fill out your application. The priority deadline for your application is Sunday, November 21, 2021 @ 11:59pm. After the applications have been reviewed, individuals have the opportunity to be invited to our two step interview process taking place from Monday November 29, 2021 - (Round 1) & Wednesday, December 1 - Thursday, December 2, 2021 (Round 2).

Each applicant must have one reference that they can list, either from a professional (ex. VCU Faculty, VCU Staff Member, athletic coach, pastor, past teacher, etc.) or from a current VCU student. The student can be a leader you have gotten to know like an OL or RA or even just a friend or roommate who can speak to your strengths.

Candidate Questions
There are two positions available on the Orientation team: Family Orientation Leader (FOL) and Student Orientation Leader (SOL).

Family Orientation Leaders provide guidance to the people who have come to orientation to support their student - their families. Ideal candidates for Family OL positions are strong communicators who work well with people of all ages. If you are interested in a meaningful experience that requires a little less social engagement or you love Dad jokes, this might be the position for you! Families are so appreciative of their interaction with FOLs and you'll love being part of a smaller team.

Student Orientation Leaders are ultimately responsible for helping our new Rams feel like they belong to the VCU family. SOLs need a lot of energy and the ability to think on the fly. This position is more intense - leading icebreakers, discussions, getting students from A to B - it's all part of the fun! If you like a fast-paced, high impact work environment and love being part of a large team with a lot of hype, this is the right fit!
Did you attend Orientation when you enrolled at VCU? *
Note: This is not a requirement of any of our positions.
Required
Are you able to provide the necessary documentation for VCU Payroll? *
e.g. social security card, I-20, birth certificate, driver’s license or ID card
Required
Do you currently have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and understand that failure to maintain this GPA throughout the term of employment will jeopardize my employment. *
Required
If you have ever been found in violation of the law or VCU student conduct code, please explain what occurred here.
We do complete a VCU conduct record check on each applicant.

Required
List any time commitments for Summer 2022 that you are aware of (i.e. dates of vacation, an internship, or other activities) that might impact your summer orientation duties.
By clicking "Yes", I recognize that being an Orientation Leader carries both privileges and responsibilities.  I give permission to the Office of New Student and Family Programs to obtain information from the Office of Student Conduct and University Housing and Residential Life regarding any conduct records in my name and the Registrar to obtain my grade reports.  This information will be used for the sole purpose of determining my eligibility for the Orientation Leader position. *
I understand that if selected to be an Orientation Leader, this position takes priority in terms of my summer responsibilities and opportunities. I may not study abroad, take classes or participate in jobs or internships that conflict with Orientation duties. *
Orientation Team training and NSO dates are planned to run June 7, 2021 through August 17, 2021, (*subject to change). Orientation responsibilities typically only occur Monday-Friday during the summer.

We plan on hosting the first round of interviews on Monday, November 29 from 7-8pm. Would you be able to attend this? *
