The Art of Sound and the Sound of Art

‘Listening  happens unbidden, you can’t close off your ears’

This workshop uses sound as its basis from sound art to music to spoken word. It explores the way sound can make you feel and affect your emotions both as the creator of the sound and the listener in a way that is comparable to looking at visual art.

It begins with the action of listening to deepen the experience and to develop a deeper relationship to the sounds around us with Chris Wright who will then talk about sound art. This will be followed by guitarist and vocalist Mik Hobson who will use different musical notes to create sound patterns that engender emotions. This continues through the matching of lyrics to music before Italy-based artist, Helen Lees talks about her poems and other writing. She describes how her writing begins with a feeling, then an idea until she finally has a written piece.
