The 5th Servas East Asia Online Meeting-Korea Servas Peace Riding - 2022-Oct-29
Dear Servas members from East Asia and worldwide,

Happy seasonal greeting to you all.

In Asia, Covid-19 is still preventing some of us from traveling. So,  we East Asia National Secretaries (NS's) from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Mongolia and Taiwan decided to organize online meetings to keep having cultural exchange between members.

Following this, the East Asia NS's are honored and more than happy to invite you to our 5th online meeting, which will be conducted by Korea, presenting Servas peace riding (SPR) on Oct. 29th. SPR started from 2009, and made friendship, cultural exchange and peace through cycling.  They rode in Korea and overseas, even reached Africa. 60% of SPR members are over 60 years old. SPR just cycled with Mongolia students and got support from government last month. Come to see why they are so energetic and how they achieve these.

In this meeting, Servas Korea sponsors a K-pop festival ticket (worth USD140)+ 3D2N homestay at Servas Korean member's house for lucky draw!!! All Zoom meeting participants can join this lucky draw.  Must come and join us!!!

Looking forward to meeting you online.

In peace and friendship

Speaker #1  Byungwan Choi (Honorary Chairman of Servas Korea)

I have been a member of Servas Korea since 2004. I graduated from Korea University and retired from Doosan. I served as Vice President of Servas Korea in 2013 and National Secretary in 2016. In 2018, we hosted the International Servas Congress in Seoul and organized the 1st SIPR. My hobbies are outdoor marathons, table tennis, social dance, and cycling. My best marathon record is 3 hours and 25 minutes, and completed the full course (42.195km) 44 times. My wife, Misook Kim, has completed the full course 30 times. Now I live in Seoul and I am on a trek to the Himalayas in Nepal with 11 Servas Korea members, so I'll meet you on video. (I am in the photos with yellow T-shirt.)

Speaker2: Sangkee Song (National Secretary of Servas Korea) -

I have been a member of Servas Korea since 2004. Now I am the National Secretary of Servas Korea. I received Ph.D. at Inha University in 1994 and completed Post Doc. at the Department of Automotive Engineering, Tsinghua University, China. Now, I am a professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Suncheon JEIL College in Suncheon, Jeonnam. There are 5 people in my family. My wife, Hyewon Park, loves to exercise, and I have 2 daughters and 1 son. My hobbies include cycling, golfing, drone photography, traveling, and making wooden pens using a wood lathe. I love making global friends through cultural exchanges with Servas members from many countries. I live in Suncheon, the 5th largest coastal wetland in the world and the host of the Suncheonman International Garden Expo. (I am the second one from the right in the photo.)

Moderator #1 Kyuok Kim (Peace Secretary of Servas Korea)

I have been a member of Servas Korea since 2013 and am in charge of Peace Secretary now. I have worked for the Korea Transport Institute as a senior research fellow after obtaining Ph.D. at Texas A&M University in 2002. I am a member of ISO TC 204 and PIARC international organizations. I and my wife, MeeSoo Lee, love travelling and making global friends from all countries. My two sons, TaeWoo and Taeho, have studied Industrial Engineering in the graduate program of Texas A&M University. We stay at Sejong City that has a beautiful lake and river. (I am the first one from the left in the photo.)

Moderator #2 Junghee Park ( Servas Korea member)

I live in Busan, a southern city of Korea. I have been a Servas member for 18 years. During the first ten years of it, I have enjoyed hosting which I loved very much. However, traveling made my Servas experience more enriching and exciting. Through Servas traveling, I learned a lot about different cultures, but above all, I learned about different attitudes towards life. Servas is a great teacher and peace promotor. I am proud to be a Servas member.
