2021 Farmer-In-Training application
Positions are open until filled. Participants will be selected by February 1, 2021. Email ewwhittlesey@fortlewis.edu with any questions.

Description: Become a Farmer-In-Training (FIT) at the Old Fort! From May through September, FITs work 4 days per week co-managing a 1-acre plot with assistance from the Program Coordinator. FITs work hard to achieve the deep satisfaction of growing thousands of pounds of vegetables on a productive learning farm. FITs participate in the Spring Farmer Training Immersion, and informal classes are offered throughout the season, including pump maintenance, harvesting and food safety, direct seeding, and more.

This program provides an immersive experience of the labor and rhythm of farm work on a productive educational farm. Successful FITs are self-motivated learners, team players, and hard workers. We value communication, welcome questions, and encourage responsibility. We’re looking for people eager to farm, who love working in teams, are driven to see projects through to completion, and want to get started with farming as a career or as a passion.
