The Saunters program started in Lodi in 2008 with a week-long course dedicated to hiking. This course has a 16 year history of partnership with Lodi staff and students, the Ice Age Trail Alliance, National Park Service, and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. This is open for students going into 3rd grade through 12th grade (we also always welcome back Lodi - Saunter Alumni!). We average 6 to 9 miles a day on some dynamic hikes. It will be up to you to determine if your child can handle that distance before signing up for this course.
This summer, Saunters will take place from:
Monday, June 3 through Friday, June 7 (Friday, June 7 is a 1/2 day).
Students will load the bus each day at 8 am, travel to a unique segment of the Ice Age Trail, and return to school by 4 pm. Along the way participants in Grades 3 – 12 will explore Wisconsin on foot, build leadership skills, and learn about our glacial legacy. They will need to bring their own lunch, water and snacks. On Friday, they will be off the trail at about 11:00 am and then have lunch together (with families invited). Students will be done for the day on Friday around 12:00. More information will be sent to you after registration closes.
