La Poésie en images. Film Submission Form for Beginning and Intermediate Students

Individuals or teams of students should select any poem written in French and create a filmed adaptation of that work (no more than 3 minutes including credits). Feel free to use still images, animation, or live action (people, puppets, animals, paper cut-outs, etc). Wheaton College’s “Vive Voix” site [https://wheatoncollege.edu/vive-voix/] provides a selection of poems with accompanying readings. This activity is inspired by France Télévision’s En sortant de l’école series [https://www.france.tv/enfants/neuf-douze-ans/en-sortant-de-l-ecole/], in which illustrators have interpreted the works of many different poets. Thirteen examples of the infinite variety of materials and methods that have been used to adapt poems by Jacques Prévert, for example, can be studied here [http://ticsenfle.blogspot.com/2014/04/en-sortant-de-lecole-poesies-de-prevert.html] Don't feel obliged to use a Prévert poem: they are just models!

RULES
The author and title of the poem must be identified early in the film (verbally and visually).
The words of the poem must be read (or sung) during the film.
The French text of the poem should appear in some form, either within the film or via subtitles.
No film may be more than three minutes long, including credits (shorter is fine).
The film must be appropriate for all audiences.
The film must acknowledge the participating school in opening or closing credits.
Each school may submit only one entry per class.
Content must be original: authored and performed by the students of the participating school.
Images borrowed from web sites, magazines, or other sources must be acknowledged in the final credits.
By entering the contest, students and teachers agree to the official rules and accept the judges’ decision.

Submissions must be received by 4:30pm on Friday, February 16, 2024

JUDGES
The judges will be made up from a panel of French-speaking Montclair State University faculty, students, and
alumni.
